The Basic animation is a dynamic medium in which objects are manipulated to appear as moving images. In advance, it has developed into various animation like Traditional animation,2D Vector-based animation,3D computer animation, Motion graphics, Stop motion etc. So we have developed a lot. For every animation have to follow the basic principles. especially for animators have to know about the basic principles of animation. Here are the 12 basic principles of animations.


12 principles of animation Firstly introduced by the Disney animators Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas in their book The Illusion of Life: Disney Animation.  it is originally released in 1981. In this book, Johnston and Thomas examine the work of leading Disney animators from the 1930s and onwards, and boil their approach down to 12 basic principles of animation.

So in this article, we’ll take a closer look at each principle of animation. These are the 12 basic principles of animations.

1.Squash and stretch

Straight ahead action involves drawing frame-by-frame from start-to-finish.  5. Follow Through and Overlapping Action

When objects are in motion, then they come to a stop, not everything on that object will stop at the same time. Also, not everything on an object will move at the same rate. For example, as a character comes to a stop from a walk, every part of the body won’t stop at the exact same time, instead, the arms may continue forward before coming to a settle.

6.Slow in and slow out

It is principle designed to add realism to the movement of characters. When characters are performing actions, animators will draw more frames at the start of the action, less frames in the middle, and more frames again at the end of the action to create this slow-in/slow-out effect. n both cases, things slow down. In animation, this effect is achieved by adding more frames at the beginning and end of an action sequence.

7. Arc
